What People Are Saying…

Singing makes for better people! The Vancouver Bach Children’s and Youth Choirs provide young singers with remarkable opportunities that will encourage community and artistic involvement for a lifetime. Studies have shown that with excellent teaching and mentoring, these young people not only develop their singing and creative talents but often also show stronger academic performance, improve health and posture, and a greater sense of self confidence. What better way is there to develop and insure this, than through our children a long-lasting commitment to the arts culture of our world? – Diane Loomer,  recipient of the Order of Canada, Artistic Director and founder of Chor Leoni Men’s Choir, co-founder and conductor emerita of Elektra Women’s Choir

Growing up, being a part of the VBCC family really helped me gain a lot of confidence and got me out of my shell.  Now, I owe my career to the training I received from the choir!

A. Lau, current VBYC member & professional performer

As a singer in the Vancouver Bach family of choirs, I have been able to train with world class teachers and singers, and perform in amazing venues in Vancouver, New York, and Europe. Not only has this allowed me to develop my skills as a musician, but it has also given me the opportunity to travel, perform, and make lifelong friends.
– J. Knight, VBYC, Anna Magdalena & Sarabande singer for 10 years

I’ve learned so much and I enjoy going to practice every single week!  It is so exciting to be on stage during our Christmas Concert – I especially like it when we get to sing with the entire Bach Choir – so many voices singing together – it feels really special to be a part of it.

– M.Borritt, VBCC Junior member, 2010 – 2112

As a parent, I have found the VBCC rehearsals uplifting. As a professor with 23 years of experience, the rehearsals have become some of my greatest professional development, reminding me constantly that the best imaginable preparation and knowledge conveyed to our “students” lead to the greatest performance on their part. Ms. Gaetanne often reminds us that Mr. Pullan was fond of saying that the higher his expectations, the better the results and that the choristers had never fallen short of his expectations. I believe we should all embrace that wisdom, just as the children of the choir have embraced and reflected that philosophy in their concerts.

T. Acton, VBCC parent

The VBCC provides exceptional musical education at a very affordable price. The choir has given our daughter the opportunity not only to develop into a musician, but to gain self confidence, and to work with other children as a team in a structured yet fun atmosphere.

– S. Holmes, VBCC parent

I joined the Vancouver Bach Children’s Chorus at age 8, shortly after it was founded. Throughout my childhood, weekly choir practice ingrained in me an appreciation for the beauty of music, and the pure joy of singing with others. Choir also taught me self discipline – sitting quietly on stage during a Symphony concert, for example. I always remember being treated like a professional. Right from day one, conductors worked with us children in the same way we saw them work with professional adult musicians. I’m sure that gave me valuable life skills that I use today.

– K. Simpson, VBCC  & VBYC member for 25 years!

We’re delighted by the high caliber of musicians that work with the VBCC and the smoothness with which the organization is run. Our children have blossomed under the kind and inspired teaching of  the  faculty. We’ve been with the VBCC choirs for 5 years and hope to continue for many more.

– M. From, parent of two singers in the VBCC

My 10+ years in the VBCC have contributed to a closer relationship with my siblings, opportunities to sing in Ottawa and England, and even helped me meet my fiancee. To call my experience in choir anything less than life-changing is an understatement.

– A.L.,  VBCC member, 1997 – present

Our son has been a member of the family of Bach Children and Youth Choirs for the past seven years. The program and conductors have been superb. They have provided him with amazing grounding in choral music that has opened the door to a multitude of other choral opportunities and  enriched his and our family’s lives immensely.

P. Doig, VBYC parent

It’s been such a pleasure, and great experience for my girls (ages 6 and 9) to be able to sing with the Vancouver Bach Children’s Chorus. It has built up confidence in their voices and given them opportunity to audition for roles that they would not have otherwise.  A truly wonderful and encouraging environment for children to grow from.

– C. Bowden, VBCC parent
